Sutton made it five games unbeaten in the pre-season programme as Harry Beautyman’s early strike was cancelled out by Ryan Hill’s superb equaliser just after the half hour.

Beautyman was one of three players back in action after knocks, with Omar Bugiel and Will Randall also in action, and Bugiel and Beautyman formed the front two in Tobi Sho-Silva’s absence. It took just ten minutes for the combination to strike as Bugiel headed down Wayne Brown’s cross and Beautyman steered a low volley past the oncoming goalkeeper. Sutton continued as the better side early on without being able to add to the lead, but were pegged back when Danny Bassett laid the ball back to Hill, who cut in from the right of the penalty area and sent a shot in to the top far corner of the net, giving Dean Bouzanis no chance.

Hampton should have led at the break, Niko Muir lifting the ball over the bar from close range after Sam Deadfield had lifted the ball over the U’s defence, and in a second half of numerous substitutions and few chances it was Deadfield who came close for Hampton with a 25-yard shot that was pushed away by Bouzanis. U’s keeper was also off his line quickly to deny Hill after a darting run from the right. At the other end Callum Kealy and a triallist both saw low shots saved, while Craig Dundas headed wide from a Ben Wyatt cross, but neither side was able to provide a decisive moment and honours were shared.

Sutton: D Bouzanis, Triallist, B Wyatt, W Brown(sub Triallist 74), C Rowe, L John, Triallist, K Davis(sub C Eastmond 74), O Bugiel(sub C Kealy 63), H Beautyman(sub C Dundas 74), W Randall(Sub Triallist 63).
