Steve Morison has issued a call to action for the fans ahead of Sutton’s Enterprise National League match against Scunthorpe United tomorrow.
The U’s are looking to get off the mark this season having drawn their opening two games of the campaign against York City and Solihull Moors, before losing last time out against Forest Green Rovers.
Morison’s side will now be aiming to bounce back against the Iron, which would see them secure their first three points of the season.
“Obviously, it’s the next one and we’re back at home” he said. “Hopefully, we can build on the performance that we put in at home against Solihull, which was very positive. It’s going to be a real tough game, they’ve had a great start to the season, obviously off the back of promotion last year, but it’s one we’re looking forward to.”
“We don’t expect anything less than a top effort from these lads, which is what we’ve had every day. We’re allowed to lose games of football and it didn’t go our way Wednesday night. We have a chance to put performance in on Saturday.”
The Head Coach spoke positively about the opposition on the weekend, with Scunthorpe finally securing the first step in their mission to return to the EFL under Andy Butler last season, and look well-placed to go again this term after winning their opening two games of the campaign against Tamworth and Woking. Furthermore, Morison had no qualms about the focus being firmly on the Iron despite another test to come two days later against Rochdale.
“You have to give every team the utmost respect, and we do, and we plan for Scunthorpe and Scunthorpe only. We do our work as everybody does, we’re not doing anything different to anybody else.”
“We just do it in our way and, yeah, we focus on that Saturday and then we’ll deal with Monday, Saturday, quarter past five once we’ve come in and the dust has settled and how ever the result’s gone, then we make sure everyone’s fit and ready and we’re covering right, ready to go Monday.”
“They’ve had a great start to the season. They’ve gone and won at Tamworth away which is we know a really tough place to go and pick up a result and they did that well. They obviously had a good result against Woking the other day at home, winning in front of their fans which is good. They’ve had a great start, they’ve got some good players and we’re going to have to be right at it. The boys are ready and hopefully they can put a performance in.”
The U’s will be keen to finally get their first win of the campaign though, and will be looking forward to returning home where they will be aiming to put in a performance in front of their home crowd. Morison had this to say about the supporters who have come in their numbers so far this season, and had a request ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
“They were great against Solihull and they were great Wednesday night so, yeah, obviously they’re back. That’s just a carry-on from the York game as well where they were fantastic so yeah, look, I said I think the fans have been great and I know that the lads have asked and hopefully they’ll get the message but I said we just want to get as many people in.”
“It’d be great if they could get in a little bit earlier, just before the start, just before the end of the warm-up which is normally around the quarter to three mark, so yeah, we can kind of try and build that little bit of energy and atmosphere before we go down the tunnel. That’d be great if they could do that and yeah, hopefully we can put on a performance as well.”
