Sutton United Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of young goalkeeper David Aziaya.

The 20-year old arrives at the VBS Community Stadium having been released from nearby club Bromley and will offer athleticism and good quality with the ball at his feet, along with a high level of additional competition within the goalkeeper union.

A product of the Norwich City academy, Aziaya’s background began in South London having joined the Canaries at the age of 17 from the Kinetic Foundation, a programme dedicated to developing young players.

After appearing for the club at Under-18 and Under-21 level, he later moved on loan to Barnsley’s youth setup during 2021/22 and enjoyed a three-month stint in Yorkshire, playing three times for the Under-18’s, before signing his first professional deal at Carrow Road and he subsequently gained crucial first team experience on loan at Faversham Town.

Standing at 6″6, the goalkeeper got a chance to develop closer to home and returned to South London with a move to Bromley and spent two years at Hayes Lane, continuing his development in both the National League and League Two. He was named on the bench a handful of times at both levels and made his professional debut for the club in a 1-0 win over Wealdstone in March 2024, playing a significant chunk of what proved to be a crucial win towards the Ravens’ eventual promotion-winning campaign.

Aziaya otherwise gained a host of experience out on loan with stints all around non-league, turning out for Chatham, Dover Athletic, Salisbury and Dartford across his two years at Bromley, and more recently moved to the League of Ireland with a stint at Finn Harps. He appeared more than ever before during his brief stay at Finn Park, playing ten times and displaying his qualities with a string of positive performances in the Premier Division, before being released from Bromley upon his return last month.

After putting pen to paper on a deal at Gander Green Lane, Aziaya said:

“It feels good, I’m excited to be here. I can’t wait to meet all my teammates and get on, and kick on for the season.

It was quite quick, I was in contact with Kyri [Neocleous], he reached out to me and presented me with this opportunity and I had a conversation with the gaffer as well, and I decided it’s what I wanted to do, I wanted to get on board and get ready to work.”

Welcome to Sutton, David!
