Sutton United Football Club can confirm a new addition to the Backroom Team at Gander Green Lane, following Chris Agutter’s appointment as Head Coach.
Agutter will also be joined by Ben Cornelius, his Assistant at Worthing, having worked with him initially at Hastings United, who joins the club as First Team Coach and Analyst.
Cornelious spent seven years at the Pilot Field as a Coach, and first linked up with Agutter when the newly-appointed Sutton boss was named in charge of the U’s First Team just a few months after he did in 2017.
As a result, Cornelius has become a long-term part of Agutter’s coaching staff, working together during the first four years of the latter’s tenure in Sussex in which they won the Sussex Senior Cup and the Isthmian South East Division, before reuniting upon Agutter’s return to Hastings in 2024.
A single season together preceded Agutter’s move to Worthing, and Cornelius joined him at Woodside Road in a mixed position, taking on the role of Assistant Coach, Goalkeeper Coach and Analyst.
Together, the duo guided the Rebels to last season’s record-breaking points tally and a shot at promotion via the National League South play-offs.
Welcome to Sutton, Ben!
