Sutton United Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Brandon Njoku, following his departure from League Two side Cambridge United.
The young forward departed the Abbey Stadium after spending the last four years with the U’s, and will offer Steve Morison’s side quality in front of goal along with an excellent work rate and versatility to play across the frontline.
After coming through the ranks at West Ham United, Njoku made the switch to Cambridge in 2021 and scored in multiple rounds of the club’s run to the FA Youth Cup Quarter-Final in 2022/23, with his performances earning him his first professional deal at the end of the season, before spending time out on loan at a host of clubs around non-league.
Stints at St. Neots Town, Cheshunt and Braintree Town preceded a move to St. Ives Town, where he notably notched 13 goals in 19 games, before being recalled by manager Neil Harris, who awarded Njoku his senior debut for the club on the same day, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient.
He subsequently ended the 2023/24 campaign with three Cambridge appearances to his name with cameos against Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United, as well as two months on loan at Peterborough Sports, before becoming a more regular figure within the U’s first team the following season.
Njoku scored his first Cambridge goal on his first appearance of 2024/25 against Blackpool, ending the season with eight starts from a total of 32 league appearances, before exiting the Abbey Stadium in the summer.
After putting pen to paper on a permanent deal, Njoku said…
“It feels really good [to be here]. Obviously I’ve had a look around, the boys have welcomed me really nicely and the manager had a lot of really good things to say so it’s a good feeling.
It was pretty quick actually, the gaffer got my number and gave me a call and spoke to me about the philosophy and plans, how he sees me integrating into that as well and it was pretty much a no-brainer for me. Obviously, being in London helped as I’m a London boy so it was a pretty easy decision.”
Head Coach, Steve Morison added:
“I want to thank the owners for backing us with the additional budget — it made the difference in securing this signing.
He played 25 games in League One last season and that experience will be a real asset for us. Their support shows the ambition we all share for the club.”
Njoku will wear the number 34 at Gander Green Lane.
Welcome to Sutton, Brandon!
