Sutton United Football Club can confirm the departure of Kane Crichlow, who returns to Chelmsford City on loan until the end of the season.
The Bermuda international reunites with his former club after spending the 2024/25 campaign at the Melbourne Stadium, where he had scored 13 goals in 38 appearances
The Clarets sit 15th in the National League South after winning one of their last six games, though it had followed on from an impressive streak of six wins in a row, including a historic 4-1 win in the Emirates FA Cup against Essex rivals Braintree Town, courtesy of goals from Jason Adigun and Jesurun Uchegbulam either side of a brace from Lyle Taylor.
Crichlow had initially joined the U’s from Chelmsford last summer, having impressed in the sixth tier with his trickery in midfield and superb ball-striking ability from distance, making the step up to the highest level of non-league football for the first time since his return to England, having spent a period in Greece.
He went on to earn plaudits for his performances during pre-season, including a goal in Sutton’s opening match against Wycombe Wanderers, but has gone on to appear just 11 times for the club competitively, including three starts.
Prior to his move to the VBS Community Stadium, he had spent time in the youth academy of Cornellà after opting to swap his native Bermuda for Spain at the age of 12, and was followed by a move to England six years later, moving to South London for the first time with a switch to AFC Wimbledon.
This preceded a move to Watford, where he rose through the ranks of the then-Premier League side to make his senior debut in an EFL Cup defeat to Newport County, while navigating long-term injury problems which ultimately ended his time in Hertfordshire after three years. A year with Greek side Episkopi was then succeeded by a return to England, joining Bishop’s Stortford, where he slowly worked his way up the non-league pyramid via last season’s spell at Chelmsford to make it to the National League in the summer.
Good luck, Kane!
