Sutton United Football Club can confirm that Kai Jennings and Osman Foyo have been recalled by their parent club AFC Wimbledon, with immediate effect.
The duo joined on loan initially until January, with Jennings extending his deal until the end of the season after a tremendous first half of the season, while Foyo rejoined the U’s at the end of February after being recalled due to non-footballing reasons in December.
They will now return to Plough Lane ahead of the Dons’ final eight League One games, with Johnnie Jackson’s side looking to cement their third tier status and return to winning ways after going winless across their last three games.
Wimbledon currently sit 14th in the third tier, eight points above the relegation zone and ten points off the play-off places, having enjoyed after a successful return to the division after winning promotion via the League Two play-offs last term.
An impressive campaign for Jennings has seen him rack up 31 appearances in all competitions, contributing to Sutton’s superb rise in form under Chris Agutter during November.
After scoring on his debut with an outstanding turn and shot to double Sutton’s lead against Wealdstone, he fired home a rocket into the top corner and a first-time volley to secure three points away at Truro City, before notching the second of four in the National League Cup against Southampton to make it four goals for the club.
Jennings then bagged what was perhaps his finest moment in amber in front of the television cameras, scoring directly from a corner against Shrewsbury Town in the Emirates FA Cup.
He has also impressed with his tenacity and energy in the centre of the park, as well as his wonderful eye for a pass. His assist for Brandon Njoku’s goal against FC Halifax Town epitomised what he is about, racing forward before seeming to miss a chance to get a shot away, but instead creating space on the right of the penalty area to chip in a cross that Njoku brought down before sweeping past the helpless Sam Johnston.
His form subsequently saw him extend his deal until the end of the campaign in January, and he has gone on to reach his very best form for the U’s, including scoring four goals in five games between the end of February and the start of March, most notably with a rocket against Hartlepool United to seal all three points in the North-East.
Most recently, he scored again with a second direct corner of the season with the opener last night against Eastleigh, and has rapidly become one of the most talented midfielders in the division, successfully making the jump into the fifth tier after previous loan spells at Walton & Hersham and Farnborough.
Foyo meanwhile joined Sutton initially until the new year in November, producing two extremely promising performances for Agutter’s side with an encouraging cameo in the 2-0 win over FC Halifax Town, before being rewarded with his first start against Truro City, where he put in a monstrous display up top as the U’s sealed a memorable 3-2 victory in Cornwall.
Owing to bets made while he was still at Ipswich Town, Foyo’s stint at Gander Green Lane came to a premature end after the FA opting to extend his ban from football, but the Dutchman returned to the U’s at the end of February until the end of the season, continuing where he left off with an impressive performance on his second debut away at Yeovil Town on the same day.
This was followed by his first real contribution in amber and chocolate, notching the assist for Brandon Njoku’s late equaliser at Halifax with a driving run down the right flank, before drilling in a dangerous low cross that ended with Njoku firing home from the edge of the box.
The 21-year old subsequently scored his first goal for the club with a superb volley from a dangerous Kai Jennings corner away at Hartlepool United, opening the scoring ahead of an unforgettable win in the North-East, before adding his second goal for the club with another opener ahead of another brilliant midweek win up north, this time tapping home the rebound from a Jermaine Francis effort away at Scunthorpe United.
In all, Foyo has appeared ten times for the U’s, becoming a key part of Sutton’s run of just three defeats in eight games across his second spell in SM1, seeing them rise away from the relegation zone with an eight-point gap to Brackley Town in 21st.
We would like to thank both players for their efforts this season and wish them all the best for the future.
