Sutton United Football Club is delighted to announce that First Team Coach, Jon Meeney, has agreed to extend his deal with the club until 2027.
The 35-year-old initially joined Steve Morison’s backroom team ahead of the 2024/25 campaign from Horsham, with whom he had spent the previous season as Dominic Di Paola’s number two, and quickly became a popular member of staff.
Meeney first gained coaching experience when appointed assistant-manager at County League East Preston while in his early twenties, before going on to have a spell as First Team Coach at Worthing prior to accepting a similar role in Finland.
He later returned to Brighton to coach the club’s youngsters before a second stint with Worthing, and remained in non-league with Eastbourne Borough and Horsham, before joining the backroom staff at Crawley Town in 2019, where he remained until the end of the season.
After completing his UEFA A Licence, Meeney subsequently joined Hastings United as assistant-manager, from whom he rejoined the Hornets in 2023.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion academy player spent a season back at Horsham, but opted to depart for a full time role with the U’s ahead of the 2024/25 Vanarama National League season, and had an immediate impact with his infectious personality and passion for the sport.
His energy on the sidelines also made him an instant hit with the club’s supporters, and we are delighted that Jon has now committed his future in South London for the next two years.
After agreeing his new deal, Jon said:
“Very happy, really pleased to get it done. I thank the board, Terry [Bullivant], Steve [Morison]; for placing their faith and trust in me and I looking forward to continuing my journey”
