Osman Foyo has been handed an additional suspension from all footballing activity due to betting offences committed whilst at Ipswich Town, and has left Sutton United as a result.

We are sorry to lose Osman so prematurely after such a promising start to life at Gander Green Lane and we wish him all the best for the future.

Osman’s parent club, AFC Wimbledon have provided the following statement:

Following an FA appeal, Osman Foyo has received an enhanced suspension from playing competitive football, in relation to the same historical betting offences for which he has already served a ban.

Osman was previously handed a 5-month suspension, with 1 month ordered to be served immediately, and the remaining 4 months to be suspended for 18 months. Osman completed this suspension at the start of November and then returned to training and playing with commitment and professionalism, and his recently agreed loan spell at Sutton United was progressing positively.

The FA appealed the Commission’s original sanction on the grounds that it “came to a decision which no reasonable such body could have come” and “imposed a penalty, award, order or sanction that was so unduly lenient as to be unreasonable”.  The Appeal Panel accepted the FA’s appeal in part, and has replaced the original order with an enhanced sanction:

  • A £1,000 fine
  • A five-month suspension, of which three months were to be served immediately, with credit for the one month already spent suspended,
  • And two months suspended for 24 months, to be activated only if a further breach of a similar nature occurred.

Osman is therefore prohibited from playing competitively until the revised suspension expires on 24 January 2026.  However, he is entitled to train with the squad during this period.  Osman’s loan with Sutton United has regrettably concluded as a result.

AFC Wimbledon strongly believes that participants in football should not bet on football, and those who do must accept their punishment. We have a duty of care to our players, and will continue to support Osman throughout this period and ensure he receives the guidance, structure and pastoral care he needs.  We have shared our observations of this case with the FA for their consideration.
