Sutton United Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Harry Phipps following the expiry of his contract at National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge.

The defender, who can also play in midfield, will offer Steve Morison’s side a wealth of experience and plenty of quality in both the heart of defence as well in the centre of the park, and joins the U’s having proven his qualities at fifth tier level across a seven-year spell at Victoria Road which came to an end following the Daggers’ relegation last season.

Having started his career at Margate, Phipps impressed with a good run of form during the 2016/17 season – even making his senior debut in a 4-1 defeat against Sutton – before joining Maidstone United ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. His time at the Gallagher Stadium, while brief, allowed him to gain a wealth of experience with loan spells at Welling United and East Thurrock United, before exiting with just ten appearances to his name as he opted to leave his home county of Kent behind for the first time at the age of 19.

Joining Dagenham ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, Phipps subsequently remained a Dagger for the next seven years, with the midfielder-turned-defender becoming an ever-present with his tenacity and tirelessness in midfield keeping his side ticking, and was rewarded with a contract extension just six months after joining.

Having spent his early career journeying around a number of clubs, Phipps established Victoria Road as his long-term home despite a couple of serious injuries at the start of his Daggers career, and racked up almost 150 appearances during an extended spell in East London.

After agreeing his move to Sutton, Phipps said:

“It feels fantastic, I’m buzzing to get it over the line.”

“It’s been a busy, long summer but it was a decision I didn’t rush, took my time with, had lots of good conversations, but after meeting the gaffer I knew this was the place for me.”

Welcome to Sutton United, Harry!
