Lewis Simper

Lewis Simper joined Sutton for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2024, bringing an end to his 16-year association with Cambridge United.

Having joined the club’s Academy as a 6-year-old, he was originally spotted at his local Ely Development centre and rose through the ranks amongst his youth team peers, first earning a scholarship and then a professional contract in January 2020.

His debut followed in September 2020, in an EFL Trophy match against Fulham U21s, with a host of loan spells following for the midfielder, who gained experience with two stints with St Neots Town, and two stints at Concord Rangers, the latter coming either side of a brief spell at Yeovil Town, and saw him play at Wembley in the 2020 FA Trophy final during his time in Essex.

After returning to his parent club, his first league start came in April 2022 against Morecambe, with the 2022/23 season becoming a memorable one for Simper within the First Team, as he made 16 appearances and scored four goals across all competitions.

This was followed by two more loan spells away at Woking and Wealdstone in 2023, before opting to swap the U’s for the U’s when he joined Sutton ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

He has since gone on to become a key part of the squad in South London, playing almost 100 times in all competitions and establishing himself as an ever-present in the heart of Sutton’s engine room, while he has also developed a knack for scoring outrageous goals, with his showreel of 19 Sutton strikes including memorable hits against the likes of Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town and Gateshead (twice).

His first against the Tynesiders notably won Goal of the Season for 2024/25, and was one of two awards he picked up at the end of his maiden campaign, with Simper also being named joint-Player of the Season alongside Jack Sims.
