Sutton completed the league double over Barking at Mayesbrook Park thanks to a goal in each half from Emma Spear. Barking would have gone above U’s with victory, but instead it was Sutton who maintained their position in the top half of the table as the combination of Spear and Gabby Williams again proved lethal.

Sutton went ahead in the fourth minute when Williams played a ball  over the top and Spear went through to finish with a shot in to the top corner. Barking levelled on the half hour when the ball was cut back in the penalty area and a shot went past Megan Taylor.

The decisive moment came midway through the half, with Williams again the provider, this time pulling the ball back in the penalty area, and Spear again the scorer with a good finish.

A battling performance from U’s enabled them to see the game out and extend their unbeaten league and cup run to seven games, six of which have been wins.

Sutton: M Taylor, A Warren, E Meehan, T Allen, E Oliver, P Langley, K Burch-Waldron, E Spear, M Cutler, H Baptiste, G Williams. Subs L Dunne, B Gilbert-Lawal, C Chase, E Clark, S Chapman.

U’s will be looking to continue that record on Thursday evening in the Combined Counties League Cup away to Chessington & Hook United (7.45pm), before Sunday’s Adobe FA Cup 1st round against Brentford at Bedfont Sports, kick off 3.00pm.
