Three second half goals saw Sutton end November unbeaten, with Gateshead the next in line to fall victim to Chris Agutter’s Sutton United.
After going behind early on to a Kian Pennant goal, Sutton bounced back swiftly through Jayden Harris, who notched his second goal in as many league games shortly after the half-hour mark, with David Ogbonna making space to chip the ball goalward towards Harris who sent a looping header past Tiernan Brooks.
Having gone into the break level, the U’s got off to a lightning quick start to the second when Lewis Simper added another outrageous strike to his showreel when he struck a pinpoint rocket into the top corner that gave Brooks no chance, just two minutes after the restart.
It soon got even better for Agutter’s side, with Junior Eccleston reaching the byline before pulling it back into the middle where Harris saw a shot cleared off the line, but a second bite of the cherry allowed him to extend the advantage with his second of the afternoon.
While Gateshead did set up a nervy finale with Dom Telford closing the deficit just four minutes later, Jack Taylor of all players ran through from the halfway line with seconds to go, shrugging off a challenge before sliding in a fourth to send the Sutton fans into ecstasy, and seal a fourth win on the bounce for the U’s.
Victory over the Tynesiders sees Sutton jump to 17th in the Enterprise National League table, extending the gap on the relegation zone to three points, and will now take a break from league action with the visits of AFC Croydon Athletic and Shrewsbury Town in the Surrey Senior Cup and Emirates FA Cup next week.
