Sutton made it three wins out of three in the National League Under 19 Alliance South Division, coming from behind to score twice in the last fifteen minutes after Dagenham had gone in front midway through the second half.
In blustery conditions there were few chances of note in the first half, Sutton coming closest when Jayden Keteku’s cross from the right hit the outside of the post. However U’s had a major escape seven minutes before half time when the referee blew for a foul by Charlie Emery without realising that the ball had broken for a Dagenham player who drove a shot in to the far corner of the net, the visitors’ annoyance not assuaged by a booking for Emery.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Sutton having more possession but neither side able to claim the upper hand. In the 66th minute, though, the deadlock was broken when Quinn Seymour’s corner from the right was headed in at the far post by Marcell De Sousa Bonwite.
Dagenham could have doubled their lead when Bobby Sheargold underhit a back pass but goalkeeper Kian Eyers made a fine save to deny Somiechi Ukonu, and Sheargold was then involved more positively at the other end as Jayden Oberotimi headed back Emery’s cross from the right and Sheargold swept a left foot shot in to the corner of the net to equalise with fourteen minutes left.
Omotolani Bello missed a glorious chance to put U’s ahead when he shot over from close range after substitute Dan Urpens did well to win possession on the by line and pull the ball back, but it was the same players involved in the winner four minutes from time as a long Urpens throw from the right was headed on by Tito Salaam and Bello found himself with just the keeper to beat and fired the ball low in to the net.
Sutton: K Eyers, C Emery(sub D Urpens 76), A Reeves, J Keteku, T Salaam, N Nzuzi, J Oberotimi, B Sheargold, J Fennelow (sub R Drysdale H-T), O Bello, G Katana. Subs n/u L Ashburn.
