Sutton moved up to third place in the National League Academy South Division, coming from a goal down to complete a double over a Maidstone side who U’s had beaten 4-0 at the Gallagher Stadium a fortnight ago but who went in to the game level on points with Sutton.
The visitors went in front five minutes before half time at River Lane, but Sutton were level in first half stoppage time when Jayden Keteku, fresh from his match-winning hat trick at Barnet on Saturday, continued that form by netting the equaliser from close range. The winner came seven minutes in to the second half from Kai McKenzie, who showed neat skill inside the area before finishing, Sutton then seeing out a victory that moves them to within four points of leaders Southend with a game in hand, and a point behind second placed Eastleigh, who U’s visit this Wednesday at the Ganger Farm Sports Park, kick off 2pm.
