Sutton ended a run of four EFL Youth Alliance games without a win on Saturday at Knaphill as they completed a double over MK Dons.

U’s went ahead in the first half when, having already had one effort cleared off the line, Mehmet Halim anticipated a defender’s pass to the goalkeeper and intercepted the ball to go round the keeper and score.

There was a chance to double the lead inside the last twenty minutes when U’s were awarded a penalty following a foul, but substitute Tae Bamidele’s spot kick was saved, and it looked to be a costly miss as MK equalised soon afterwards. However U’s would receive another chance from the penalty spot, again following a foul, and this time Callum Lee stepped up to make no mistake and secure the three points.

Sutton: K Muca, T Boon(sub O Bello 85), C Lee, J Coombes, H Boateng, G Katana(sub J Oberotimi 70), B San Norton, L Ginger(sub D Ashia 60) E Yohannes, B Sheargold(sub T Bamidele 70), M Halim(sub J Jenkins H-T) .

Attentions now turn to Wednesday’s top of the table National League Academy South Division game away to Dartford, kick off 12.30pm at Princes Park on the 3G pitch outside the main stadium. U’s go in to the game two points ahead of the Kent side, and with a game in hand, but Dartford won the reverse fixture at the David Weir in November 4-3 and are one of only two teams to have beaten Sutton in the league this season.
