K’Shaela Burch-Waldron scored twice as Sutton progressed to the first round proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with what was ultimately a comfortable victory, although Penn & Tyler’s Green gave U’s a big scare by taking the lead inside two minutes with a well placed shot over goalkeeper Megan Taylor.
Sutton’s response was immediate, and Gabby Williams pulled the ball back from the by-line for Millie Cutler to equalise (above) with still less than three minutes on the clock, and from there Sutton gradually took control. Burch-Waldron put U’s in front with a fine header (below)from a Phoebe Langley corner, and just before the half hour mark she had doubled her tally, following in to score after Cutler’s shot had been blocked by the oncoming goalkeeper.
Burch-Waldron was involved again just before half time, this time being brought down as she broke in to the penalty area from the left, giving Beth Humphrey the chance to send U’s in at the break 4-1 up as she slotted home the penalty.
Sutton maintained their lead for much of the second half, but Penn & Tyler’s Green gave themselves hope eighteen minutes from time with a shot that eluded Taylor and found the net, but they were unable to make any further inroads in to the scoreline and Williams rounded the afternoon off for Sutton in stoppage time when she went clear to round the goalkeeper and slot home her fifth goal in this season’s competition.
