Having already beaten Wealdstone twice this season in the National League Academy South and the Academy Cup, Sutton completed the hat trick at the Brunel University but it was a much closer game against a much improved Wealdstone team who had earned a draw at league leaders Southend the previous week.

The only goal in a game of few chances came in the 16th minute when Kai McKenzie made space on the edge of the penalty area and sent in a low shot which was only parried by the Wealdstone goalkeeper with Rashaad Drysdale on hand to tuck away the rebound.

With the wind and rain behind them Sutton had the better of the first half but there were few clear chances, Tolani Bello finding the net but being denied by an offside flag.

Against the elements U’s found it harder in the second half and Wealdstone had the greater amount of possession but Sutton defended well and restricted Wealdstone to two long range efforts both of which flew over the bar. On the one occasion a home player did get through he took the ball round Klevis Muca but then found the angle too tight to attempt a shot.

At the other end Geri Katana just failed to reach a Drysdale cross from the right, and Ned Hepburn became the second Sutton player to have a goal ruled out for offside, but one proved sufficient to keep U’s in touch with the top of the table, six points off leaders Southend, Eastleigh and Maidstone but witg games in hand over all six sides above them.

Sutton: K Muca, C Lee, A Reeves, J Coombes, D Urpens, R Ruiz(sub N Nzuzi 65), R Drysdale(sub T Bamidele 86), J Keteku, K McKenzie(sub B Sheargold H-T),O Bello(sub N Hepburn 70), G Katana(sub J Obarotimi 77)

The Division F game against Dartford Reds at Cheam Sports Club was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

This Saturday the academy side return to EFL Youth Alliance action away to Northampton Town (k0 10.30 at Moulton College) following last week’s 2-0 win at MK Dons (Kai McKenzie, Leo Ginger).

There are at present no games scheduled for next midweek but supporters should check with the website for any possible rearrangement of previously postponed games.
