Jon Meeney has provided a squad update for the first time as Interim Head Coach.

With the exception of Eduino Vaz (MCL), Alex Woodyard (knee) and Alex Kirk (back), everyone is fit and available ahead of the trip to Brackley Town, with the U’s looking to pick up their first win under Meeney’s leadership on Saturday.

Will Tizzard has fully recovered from the knee injury sustained against Forest Green Rovers last month and got 45 minutes under his belt on Tuesday night against Brighton & Hove Albion, having been named on the bench for the first time since picking up the injury against Tamworth.

“He’s worked his way back into contention, he’s feeling good, he’s feeling healthy and whatever role asked of him this weekend I’m sure he’ll be ready.”

Due to National League Cup rules, four players who started the clash with Brighton will need to start at St. James Park, but Meeney has said he has given everyone the best opportunity to give themselves a good shout of being in the travelling squad to Northamptonshire.

“I want them to make my decision hell. I can’t please everyone, I’ve got to make these decisions.

Everyone is fit and available that can be and I’m going to leave it as late as possible to select the best group that I feel can go and challenge this game; the ones that are left out have got to be ready for the next one.”
