Jon Meeney touched on the importance of the whole squad prior to tomorrow’s opening group game in the National League Cup against Fulham, with the team selection potentially set to feature players who are yet to appear for the U’s.
“We analyse the squad, see where they are” said Meeney. “It’s still obviously early stages within the season and we have a duty of care not to overload them too early, but there’s also people that need to need to play to get them up to speed because we need everyone and every single game is different and we select our team based on that.”
“You also saw on Saturday how well we used the players from the bench to come on and impact in a positive way.”
Jaiden White, Mo Dabre and Eduino Vaz were not included in the squad on Saturday against York City, but remain available for selection, and will be keen to make their mark on Steve Morison’s team, particularly the former two who will be looking to make their competitive debuts for the U’s after arriving in the summer from Hereford and Tonbridge Angels respectively.
In addition, Jayden Harris has made positive strides in his recovery from last season’s Achilles injury, playing 59 minutes in the weekend’s 2-2 draw on opening day, cementing his status as fully fit and ready to go for the 2025/26 campaign.
