Jake Taylor will remain unavailable for tomorrow’s visit of Morecambe, but should be back in contention for the trip to Scunthorpe United next Tuesday.
The midfielder went down late on against Yeovil Town with a concussion and has missed the last two games as a result, with Chris Agutter confirming that he is only set to miss one more game before being back available for selection.
“He’s still unavailable, but this will be the last game that Jake misses. He’s going through the full concussion protocol – touch wood – with no issues so far, so he’ll be back for Scunthorpe.”
Aaron Jones has also faced a setback in his recovery, with the defender yet to feature since a brief cameo against Tamworth at the end of January.
While the initial target was a few weeks, it is looking like Jones will remain absent for a slightly longer period as result, with a knee problem causing him to miss the last nine games.
“Aaron Jones has had a slight setback in his recovery, but Jayden Harris obviously has come on the last couple of games and been very good for us. He was excellent against Hartlepool in the week, he’s now back fully fit which gives us some really positive selection dilemmas, especially with Charlie Bell as well.”
“Especially in the midfield department we’ve got some real big decisions tonight which is exciting and which is what’s needed as well. We need that depth in this busy period. And I think in the last couple of games we’ve finished the game really strong and that’s credit to the lads that have come on to the pitch, Jayden and Bell in particular.”
“So yeah, lots of competition for places and very excited about the potential team that we can put out tomorrow.”
The Head Coach also provided clarity on Will Tizzard, who departed on a month-long loan deal to Torquay United last week.
Agutter said that Tizzard isn’t in the plans from a starting XI perspective, and owing to his happiness with his backline at the minute, led to opportunities becoming limited for the former Southampton man, though the chance to move to Torquay is one that the Head Coach was positive about.
“The backline that we’ve played pretty consistently in the last few games is a backline I really like and I can see that being a key part of the team moving forwards in the bigger picture. And I think the performances, especially against Hartlepool on Tuesday night, were very good from a defensive perspective and lots of really good individual performances.”
“As a unit they worked incredibly well together. So I look at that backline and I’m happy with that, I think it’s the first time that we’ve had a settled backline as well.”
At the moment Tom isn’t breaking into that. So rather than keeping him around, he needs to play as a young man early on his journey in senior football.”
“The most important part of a player’s development is them getting game time and minutes on the pitch, he needs that as part of his journey. So that was the thought process, it was a good move as well. Torquay is a proper football club and as loan moves go I think it’s a great opportunity for him.”
