Eduino Vaz is set for a late call ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Scunthorpe United, having gone off with a knock during Wednesday night’s defeat at Forest Green Rovers.

The left back, who came in for his first league appearance of the season at The New Lawn, was caught late after having a shot on goal midway through the second half, and despite adrenaline allowing him try and carry on, was forced to go off with discomfort after an hour.

“He’s going for a scan today” said Head Coach, Steve Morison. “He feels a bit better than he did but we’ll have to wait until we get the full diagnosis and as soon as we do we’ll know a bit more.”

Morison had mentioned that Liam Vincent missed the trip to Nailsworth with a dead leg, and meant academy product Junior Eccleston was called upon for the final half-hour during the week.

“He’s on the bench on merit because he does excellent. He trains hard every day, he’s so diligent with his work. He does all of the opposition stuff himself on top of the stuff that we do just in case it might happen, which is a credit to himself.”

“We needed to make the change and obviously it’s a bit of an unnatural position for him, but we knew he’d be able to defend 1v1 and he’s a good enough athlete to be able to deal with what he needs to deal with. I’m really pleased that he did okay when he came on and in difficult circumstances, it shows that he’s got a really good character as well.”

The Head Coach also provided an update on Alex Kirk, who has been absent since the pre-season win at Chertsey Town due to a reoccurring back problem sustained last season away at Gateshead.

“He’s injured, he won’t be here for a while. He’s had a flare up with his back, so we wish him well and hopefully we’ll have him back sooner rather than later.”
