Take a look at the contenders below…
Goal A
Ella Meehan vs Barking – 14th September
A stoppage time goal by Ella Meehan direct from a free kick saw Sutton end a run of three consecutive defeats in the London & South Eastern Regional League.
Within a minute the referee ruled that Meehan had fouled a Barking striker in clearing the ball, giving the visitors a chance to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot, and it looked as though Barking had grabbed a point when a quick counter attack ended with a fine finish in off the underside of the bar. In stoppage time it was Barking pressing for the winner, but Sutton defended well and when they were awarded a free kick just inside the Barking half Meehan sent the ball goalwards and it evaded everyone to end up in the net.
Goal B
Emma Spear vs Barking – 19th October
Sutton completed the league double over Barking at Mayesbrook Park thanks to a goal in each half from Emma Spear.
The U’s went ahead in the fourth minute when Williams played a fine pass through the defence and Spear went through to finish with a shot in to the top corner past the advancing goalkeeper.
Goal C
K’Shaela Burch-Waldron vs Dartford – 2nd November
K’Shaela Burch-Waldron was the difference-maker in superb fashion as Sutton dispatched of Dartford.
As the first half ended, the U’s had appeared to have weathered the storm and went into the break level and as the second half started, they turned the tide of the game and snatched an unlikely lead, Burch-Waldron lobbing Dartford’s goalkeeper after a well-worked free kick by Lucy Clark’s side.
Goal D
Eden Clark vs Ashford – 7th December
Sutton United Women eased to victory against Ashford Town, sealing a 4-0 win.
Sutton were on top in the early stages of the game and took the lead when Brianna Gilbert-Lawal found herself with space on the left, using some neat footwork to create a crossing opportunity, which she delivered to Milly Cutler along the floor. Cutler then took a touch, holding the ball up before laying it off to Eden Clark on the edge of the area, who put her laces through it, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of saving it.
Goal E
Rebecca Olumodeji vs Ashford – 7th December
With Sutton 3-0 up against Ashford, things went from good to better as Becky Olumodeji topped off a dream afternoon.
With minutes to play, substitute Olumodeji slotted home into the bottom corner from a narrow angle to put the cherry on top of all three points.
Goal F
Ella Meehan vs Actonians – 18th January
Sutton produced a fine performance against higher ranked Actonians to reach the quarter finals of the Capital Senior Cup.
After going ahead through Milly Cutler, the U’s extended their lead four minutes before half time when Cutler was fouled fifteen yards inside the Actonians half and, not for the first time this season, Ella Meehan delivered an accurate free kick that flew in to the top corner of the net with the keeper helpless.
Goal G
Nadia Sabania vs AFC Wimbledon – 15th February
A brace for Nadia Sabania wasn’t to be enough for Sutton United Women as AFC Wimbledon Women’s second-half comeback dumped the U’s out of the Capital Senior Cup.
After opening the scoring, with half time approaching, Sabania from outside the area, hit the cleanest, purest strike on the half volley, zinging it past the goalkeeper and onto the cross bar, satisfingly crashing down over the line to give the U’s a shock 2-0 lead heading into half time.
Goal H
Milly Cutler vs Ebbsfleet United – 8th March
Sutton’s women recorded a comfortable victory against bottom of the table Ebbsfleet at a murky Rochester Utilities Stadium, moving back in to the top five of the London & South East Regional League above Dorking Wanderers following their 5-4 defeat at Barking.
After Nadia Sabania had sent a header just over from a corner U’s doubled the lead when Sabania returned a free kick from the goalkeeper in to the path of Milly Cutler, whose shot from distance found the empty net.
Goal I
Amy Warren vs Ebbsfleet United – 8th March
Following a successful first half against Ebbsfleet, Amy Warren put gloss on the scoreline early in the second half, setting the U’s on their way to an even greater victory.
Before half time Spear was denied by a fine save, but Sutton came out strongly at the start of the second half and Warren collected a crossfield ball from Spear and created space on the edge of the penalty area to send a low left foot shot past the keeper to make it 3-0.
Goal J
Mily Cutler vs Dartford – 15th April
Having inflicted Dartford’s only league defeat of the season so far earlier in the campaign, Sutton got the better of the Kent side again to progress to the quarter finals of the Combined Counties League Cup.
In a tight game that for an hour looked as if it could go either way, an own goal by former U’s defender Gabby Howell midway through the second half gave Sutton a lead which they defended well before a superb goal by Milly Cutler eight minutes from time sealed U’s success, the clincher coming when Cutler showed good strength to hold the ball up before a delightful backheel sent substitute Emma Spear away down the left, and when Spear crossed low Cutler had made ground to meet the ball with a first time shot which went in off the post.
