Sutton United Football Club have confirmed the departure of midfielder Gabrielle Williams, who returns to the USA after contributing significantly both on and off the pitch.

American forward Williams joined Sutton earlier this season from Yellow Jackets and has enjoyed a successful few months with the U’s, quickly establishing herself as a versatile and dynamic presence in the squad.

Hailing from Wilbraham, Massachusetts, 23-year old Williams had spent her entire career so far overseas, originally turning out for Western United Pioneers, a youth club based in her home state, until the age of 15 before making the move to Connecticut to join Oakwood Soccer Club two years later, prior to a return Massachusetts to join New England Football Club, where she spent a year, and preceded a switch to American international College where she enjoyed a positive start to life at the Yellow Jackets.

Known for her strong work ethic and positive influence in the dressing room, she played an important role in the team’s progress during her brief time in South London, notching an impressive 13 goals and eight assists in 15 games.

While her departure comes at a perhaps premature time, it marks the end of a brief but positive chapter for both player and club, and while has returned home to the USA, she will remain on our books for the foreseeable future and we are hopeful that she will return to action at some point.

All the best, Gabby!
