One of our local partners Sutton Community Works will be at the game to receive donated food items as they aim to eradicate food poverty in Sutton. Donations of pasta sauce, tinned fruit, long life juice, coffee (100g jars), sponge puddings and other similar puddings, tinned meat, fish and vegetables and long life milk are welcome at their tables and boxes which will be situated just inside the main car park. There will be a 7-a-side walking football tournament at Goals in Cheam from 11.30am, featuring Sutton United (above), Fulham, Better Sutton Vets & Walsall, while our disability teams the Jays and Ganders will both have games against Southwark in Collingwood Recreation Ground, kicking off at 12 noon. The players in all the games will then be coming to the VBS to have lunch in the home fan zone before watching the game.
Players from the Foundation’s Girls Development centre (Girls aged 5-10 years train every Monday at Goals) will also be at the game with twelve of them acting as flag bearers when the Sutton and Walsall teams walk out before the game, and we will also be welcoming 100 members of the Hong Kong community (the Sutton Hong Kongers Football Group) and members of Onside Soccer in Carshalton (further information here). The Sutton Hong Kongers group meet for coaching on Sunday mornings at Aberdour School between 9.00 and 11.00, with a hour each for children and adults respectively.
The Sutton United Foundation is the club’s official charity, which was formed in 2018 to consolidate some of the already established community programmes at the club, ensuring that further activities could be provided to the community through a shared passion, vision and expertise. The Foundation’s vision is to deliver community projects that are of benefit to those living in the borough – with a focus on sport, education, social inclusion and health.
The Foundation is governed by a group of trustees, and activities are delivered by our small team of staff headed up by Bobby Childs (Head of Foundation), who can be contacted on bobby.childs@suttonunited.net. In addition, we rely upon a great group of dedicated coaches and volunteers to support delivery. We work with a number of partners across education, health, faith, sports and more recently other community organisations who are also supporting people in the borough, particularly those most impacted by Covid-19 and the ongoing cost of living crisis. We want to work with as many partners as possible, who share our objectives and mission, to widen our reach and impact in the local community – so if you want to work with us then please get in touch!
