Jermaine Francis has been called up for international duty ahead of Grenada’s upcoming international friendly against Republic of Ireland (Saturday, 16th May; 6pm KO (local time)).
The Boys in Green announced in March that they would take on Francis and his teammates as part of a training camp in Murcia, Spain ahead of a potential appearance in the FIFA World Cup, though they were ultimately unsuccessful after losing to Czech Republic in the play-off semi-final at the end of the month.
Despite this, Heimir Hallgrímsson’s side look ahead to their upcoming Nations League campaign later this year with the match against Grenada marking the first-ever meeting between the two nations, scheduled to take place at the Enrique Roca Stadium in Murcia.
Grenada meanwhile aim to bounce back from successful defeats in the FIFA Series, having kicked off their campaign with losses against Rwanda and Kenya.
The North Americans took on Amavubi on their home patch in the maiden game of the 2026 edition of the competition, who progressed to the final against Estonia after goals from Leroy Jacques Mickels, Jojea Kwizera, Djihad Bizimana and Hakim Sahabo.
Anthony Modeste’s side subsequently took on Kenya in the third place play-off, where they were put to the sword by strikes from Austin Odhiambo and Ryan Ogam, before Viljay Valcin’s own goal condemned the Spice Boys to a 3-0 defeat.
Due to the EFL regular season being over, but with the Premier League set to finish at the end of May, they will take on an Ireland side that is largely made up of players who ply their trade in the Sky Bet Championship or League One, marking an exciting proposition for the Sutton forward as well as his Grenada teammates, who clash with a European outfit for the first time since visiting Russia last year.
Good luck, Jermaine!
