Sutton United Football Club can confirm the departure of Edon Pruti, who has completed a permanent transfer to Grimsby Town for an undisclosed fee.

The Albania youth international joins a Mariners side who finished seventh in League Two last season, and becomes their third recruit ahead of the 2026/27 season following the arrivals of Andy Cook and Joe Foulkes.

Pruti initially joined Sutton from Slough Town in May 2025 and went on to be a regular presence in the heart of the U’s backline, originally under Steve Morison before stamping down his spot and key leader in defence under Chris Agutter.

The 25-year old scored his first goal with the opener in Sutton’s inaugural win of the campaign against Carlisle United before adding his second with a powerful low drive from 35-yards against Boreham Wood, a surefire nomination for Goal of the Season had it been any more than a consolation goal.

He later added his third with a bullet header in the 90+7th minute to rescue a point at home to former club Hartlepool United, displaying his sheer passion and determination by snapping the corner flag in half during his celebrations.

Key highlights also included a crucial challenge on Eastleigh’s Harvey Saunders which set Lewis Simper away for his goal against the Spitfires in a 2-0 win, as well as a host of commanding displays to catapult the U’s out the relegation zone.

His aggression and especially his aerial ability quickly become a trademark of his, especially after picking up a facial injury in the National League Cup against West Ham United which led to him sporting a mask for a large chunk of the campaign, along with the captain’ armband on 21 occasions, being given the opportunity to lead the side frequently throughout the campaign, making 43 starts in all competitions, second only to Simper, and in total appeared 44 times.

Prior to joining the U’s, Pruti had played in the youth setups at Stevenage and Burnley, before carving out his career in the non-league with stints at Abbey Hay, Hanwell Town and Loughborough University, as well as a first stint with Slough which preceded a move to Brentford B.

His time at the Gtech Community Stadium subsequently led to a permanent switch to League Two side Hartlepool United after five months in County Durham, but he had impressed nonetheless in the fourth tier, shortly before joining Farnborough initially on loan, before making the move permanent.

This then preceded a successful return to Slough; his form in the National League South earning him a move into the fifth tier with Sutton, and he has continued his fine trajectory by securing a return to the EFL for the first time since departing Victoria Park in 2024.

We would like to thank Edon for his service throughout the season and wish him all the best in the EFL and beyond.

Good luck, Pruts!
