Sutton’s Under 18s went out of the FA Youth Cup at Liverpool this evening but can be proud of a battling performance that saw them trail by a single goal at half time but then harshly treated by the scoreline as Liverpool substitute Ethan Ennis scored a hat trick in the last fifteen minutes. Goalkeeper Johnny Thurbin made a fine save early on to tip over a James Balagizi shot, and also denied Mateusz Musialowski with his legs before being beaten by a long range effort from Tyler Morton. U’s commitment to the cause was shown soon afterwards as Thurbin made another fine save and two shots were blocked in the ensuing scramble, but early in the second half Musialowski, the scorer of a stunning solo goal against Newcastle at the weekend, struck twice to leave U’s with it all to do. Kai Tanner saw a shot drift just wide from the edge of the penalty area, but it was substitute Ennis who stole the show in the closing stages, heading in a far post cross, sliding in to convert a low cross from the right and then completing his hat trick two minutes from time.
