Goal A
James Fennelow vs Gillingham U18 – 4th April
While Sutton suffered a second EFL Youth Alliance defeat in the space of four days at the hands of Gillingham, the U’s took the advantage and fine fashion as James Fennelow displayed exactly why Chris Agutter has opted to sign him to a professional contract.
Glen Nichols’ side went ahead in the 13th minute with a fine goal, Jayden Keteku receiving a neat lay-off from Kai McKenzie and playing a pass through to Fennelow on the right of the penalty area, and the Sutton forward cracked a shot across the goalkeeper and inside the far post for his second goal in as many games.
Goal B
Bobby Sheargold vs Eastleigh U18 – 8th April
Sutton made it nine wins from their last ten games in the National League Academy South as Bobby Sheargold came off the substitutes’ bench to score a fine winner with eight minutes to go after an own goal by Dan Urpens had cancelled out Rashaad Drysdale’s first half penalty.
It was Sutton who grabbed the winner with eight minutes to go when a superb over-arm throw from Klevis Muca found Sheargold inside the Eastleigh half, and he beat two defenders to create space before sending a powerful low shot just inside the post from twenty yards.
Goal C
Mehmet Halim vs Luton Town U18 – 11th April
Despite falling to defeat at the hands of Luton Town, Mehmet Halim’s opener was certainly one that will live long in the memory.
Glen Nichols believed that Sutton could hurt Luton out wide, which was where the opening goal came from. After Omotolani Bello had beaten his man on the wing, he moved into the penalty area before his cross was met by Halim whose side footed volley found the top corner.
Goal D
Milly Cutler vs Dartford Women – 15th March
Sutton got the better of Dartford for the second time this season to progress to the quarter finals of the Combined Counties League Cup, courtesy of an own goal by former U’s defender Gabby Howell midway through the second half before a superb goal by Milly Cutler eight minutes from time sealed U’s success.
The clincher came when Cutler showed good strength to hold the ball up before a delightful backheel sent substitute Emma Spear away down the left, and when Spear crossed low Cutler had made ground to meet the ball with a first time shot which went in off the post.
Goal E
Jermaine Francis vs Altrincham
Sutton ended the home season at the VBS Community Stadium with a fifth consecutive home defeat as Altrincham scored twice in three second half minutes to win a game that the U’s had seemed to be controlling to that point, after Jermaine Francis had struck his first Sutton goal in style.
A cross-field pass from Besart Topallaj was headed away by Eddie Jones, but his clearance fell as far as Francis on the edge of the box who made a difficult volley look easy, calmly sending the ball past the stranded Luke Hutchinson with a delightful first-time effort.
