Ashford showed why they are clear at the top of the Premier Division of the London & South East Women’s League, a division above Sutton, but took over half an hour to break through a determined Sutton side, for whom Zoe McNulty made several good saves, before scoring twice in five minutes just before half time. Two more goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second half put the visitors in firm control, and although Sutton kept battling and were unlucky when Mika Keen’s long range shot hit the bar, two more Ashford goals in the last five minutes, the first a twice taken penalty after McNulty had saved the first effort only for the referee to rule that Sutton players had encroached, left U’s on the wrong end of a 6-0 scoreline.

There was better news for the academy side on Saturday, as they recorded a fine 3-1 win over EFL Youth Alliance South East division leaders Wimbledon to warm up for Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup tie at Stevenage. Euan Mutale gave U’s the lead and Kai Tanner scored twice to make it 3-0 before Wimbledon pulled one goal back.

On Saturday afternoon our disability U’s team beat Hamble Pan 7-1.
