With yesterday’s exploits of Barnet, Oldham and Newport grabbing the headlines, today marks the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest FA Cup giantkillings of all time when Sutton beat Coventry, who had won the competition just eighteen months previously and were established in the top flight of English football, at Gander Green Lane. This was before the days of clubs resting players in the competition, and nine of the Coventry twelve who featured at Sutton had been in the squad that beat Tottenham at Wembley in 1987. SUFCtv recently caught up with Sutton’s two goalscorers that day, Tony Rains and Matt Hanlan, as well as goalkeeper Trevor Roffey, to recall that memorable afternoon in 1989. See the interviews here.
