Sutton United have agreed the sale of striker Maxime Biamou to League Two Coventry City for an undisclosed fee. Max joined Sutton at the start of last season having played in his native France for Yzeure AS and Villemomble, and scored 14 goals in his 51 appearances for U’s, including the second goal in the replay win at AFC Wimbledon, one of three goals he scored during the FA Cup run. He has agreed a two year deal at the Sky Blues with the transfer subject to the completion of a medical. We would like to thank Max for his efforts last season and wish him all the best in his career at Coventry, who of course provide the opposition for Sutton’s first friendly at the Knights Community Stadium on Saturday week, July 8th.
Manager Paul Doswell commented: "I think our clear philosophy of improving players and allowing them to pursue league careers or financial betterment has once again worked with Max getting a fantastic move to Coventry City. That is six very good players that have departed the club in the last year, and we should feel real pride in this achievement. Max in particular is a great example of this having arrived from France as an unknown. His year with Sutton has seen him grow into the English league, and during the last three months in particular he became a much improved all round player, in particular with his performances against league opposition in the FA Cup. I was realistic regarding the situations with Roarie and Maxime, and the early signings of Ross Lafayette and Moses Emmanuel were certainly made with this in mind.We also have Adam Coombes and Tommy Wright who give us a very competitive forward line, and various options amongst them.We are determined to progress Tommy this season and this gives him a genuine pathway to having a real chance".
Coventry manager Mark Robins was pleased with his signing. ”I’m delighted to welcome Maxime to Coventry City, having beaten a number of other clubs at our level to his signature. He provides an important different option to the attacking threats which we currently have. He is a raw talent with pace, power and aggression, and is also good in the air. We look forward to working with him and developing his ability further".
