We’re delighted that Sutton United was announced today as a nominee for this season’s Emirates FA Cup Giant-Killing Award. The nomination is in recognition of the 1-0 win against Leeds United in the fourth round, although U’s of course also beat League Two Cheltenham and League One AFC Wimbledon during this season’s memorable FA Cup run.

The winner will be decided by fans in a nationwide online vote on thefa.com, and  the award will be presented at the Emirates FA Cup Final on Saturday 27 May by Ronnie Radford, scorer of one of the most memorable giant-killing goals for Hereford United against Newcastle United in 1972.

The other nominees are Lincoln, for winning at Burnley and reaching the quarter finals, Millwall, who beat three Premier League sides including champions Leicester City, and Stourbridge who reached the third round for the first time in their history by beating League One Northampton Town.

Andy Ambler, The FA’s head of professional game relations said: “This has been a historic season in the Emirates FA Cup and producing a shortlist of giant-killing nominees was particularly difficult, such were the number of eye catching results. In their victories against higher opposition, all four clubs have demonstrated exactly what makes The Emirates FA Cup so special and why it remains the most loved and revered domestic cup competition worldwide.”

The winner will be announced on 23rd May.
