A Londoner who will be 33 at the end of July, Ryan began his career with AFC Wimbledon, originally in the reserves before making his first team debut towards the end of the 2009-10 season, and the following season he was part of the squad that won promotion to the Football League. After loan spells with Fleetwood and Cambridge United, he spent a season back in the Conference with Macclesfield, during which time he won two England C caps, the second alongside Harry Beautyman in the 6-1 win over Bermuda in June 2013.
In 2013 he returned to the Football League with Newport County, spending two seasons with the club before going on to make over 100 appearances in two spells for Gillingham either side of a three year stay at Colchester, for whom his appearance total also reached three figures. He joined Cheltenham at the start of last season, featuring regularly in their League One line-up and finishing top of the assists table at the club.
Manager Matt Gray said: ”I’m delighted to bring Ryan to Sutton. He’s got vast experience, and had an excellent season with Cheltenham last season. He’s a tremendous character on and off the pitch, and will bring strong competition to our back line.”
We welcome Ryan to the club.
