Dulwich v Sutton preview

11 July 2022

Sutton travel to Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday (kick off 7.30pm) looking to make it three wins out of three away from home in this season's friendly schedule before a run of three home games starts at the weekend.

Like Saturday's opponents Havant & Waterlooville, Dulwich are in National League South and finished tenth last season, six points and two places behind Havant, and last played Sutton in a friendly in one of Matt Gray's first games as manager, Dylan Kearney scoring both goals in a 2-0 win for U's at Gander Green Lane.

Matt has suggested that U's squad will be similar to that which played at Havant on Saturday, with those that played the last half hour this time playing an hour, which will give U's supporters more chance to see new signing Josh Neufville, signed on a season long loan from Luton at the weekend. Ben Goodliffe and Adam Lovatt both missed Saturday's game through injury while goalkeeper Jack Rose came off just before half time with a minor groin injury.

Admission prices for tomorrow's game are: Adults £12, concessions £5 (Age 65 and over, students with valid ID,  NHS Workers, Unemployed, DLA Recipients, Local Authority Workers, Emergency Services, Armed Forces). Under 13s free. You can pay on the night, or buy tickets before you leave for the game, with a booking fee. Click here to buy in advance. We will be wearing all amber.

Dulwich play at the Champion Hill Stadium in East Dulwich, postcode SE22 8BD, and the ground is a five minute walk from East Dulwich station, which is easily reached from Sutton with a change at Tulse Hill. Turn left out of the station and the ground is on the left.

We will have a Mixlr commentary on tomorrow evening's game, which is a 7.30pm kick off.

Anyone who fancies a more local journey can watch our women's team take on AFC Wimbledon in a friendly at Carshalton Athletic's ground, kick off 8pm.

Match report for Dulwich Hamlet 0 Sutton United 2

12 July 2022

Dulwich Hamlet 0 Sutton United 2(Smith 7, triallist 15)

Sutton completed the away leg of the pre-season programme with a 100% record after two goals in the first fifteen minutes were enough to beat Dulwich at a sultry Champion Hill.

The first hour saw U's play largely the line-up that played the last half hour at Havant, with a triallist goalkeeper and a triallist up front, with Jack Rose and Omar Bugiel among those not risked because of minor injuries, and both took a chance to impress in the first half. The striker set up the first goal, breaking down the left before pulling the ball back for Kwame Thomas, who set up Ali Smith for a firm left foot finish after a touch to get the ball from under his feet, and nine minutes later he had scored the second, a confident low finish after being put throughby Will Randall, albeit with a hint of offside.

The keeper then made a good save to turn aside a shot from Nana Owusu as Dulwich looked for a way back, but Sutton reached the interval two up, Smith just failing to turn in a good low cross from Josh Neufville, while at the other end George Porter, one of a number of former Bromley players on view, had the ball in the net from Owusu's flick but was ruled offside.

Dulwich changed their entire line-up at half time and U's triallist goalkeeper was called in to action again to tip a header over the bar before making way for Brad House as U's made their wholesale changes on the hour, although a slight groin injury for Donovan Wilson in the warm-up gave the attacking triallist an extra fifteen minutes before he was replaced by Craig Dundas. House's first touch was to save a free kick, and Ronnie Vint powered a header just over from a corner, but otherwise U's were rarely threatened, and Kylian Kouassi just missed out on a left wing cross at the near post while Luke Gambin had a shot saved.

Sutton: Triallist(sub B House 60), J Kizzi (sub R Charles-Cook 60), S Hart(sub R Milsom 60), C Rowe(sub L John 60), M Ridley(sub triallist 60), A Smith(sub C Eastmond 60), J Neufville(sub L Gambin 60), J Barden(sub H Beautyman 60), triallist(sub C Dundas 75), K Thomas(sub K Kouassi 60),W Randall(sub E Boldewijn 60)
