Sutton 2 Southport 2 - report and reaction

7 April 2017

For the second home game in a row Roarie Deacon struck a late equaliser to rescue a point for Sutton after bottom of the table Southport had looked to have turned the game round midway through the second half. Kieron Cadogan gave U's a 25th minute lead with a neat flick diverting in Deacon's shot, but U's were well blow their best even after the goal and Dan Spence's misdirected volley added to the list of recent bizarre own goals before Neil Ashton's free kick put Southport ahead. Deacon equalised in the 90th minute to put Sutton on the 50 point mark, but with other clubs at the foot of the table enjoying good results U's still look to be in need of one more win to guarantee National League football next season.
