Two goals in two minutes inside the last ten minutes of the game saw Sutton rewarded for relentless pressure after a stunning volley from Scott Wilson had given Macclesfield an early lead. U's, who lost Dean Beckwith to injury in the first ten minutes, piled on the pressure late in the first half and throughout the second, but goalkeeper Billy O'Brien, brought in to the line-up just before kick off after Shwan Jalal failed a late fitness test. produced a string of fine saves to keep his team in front, while Kenny Davis had a goal disallowed for offside. The equaliser finally came from substitute Moses Emmanuel with six minutes left, and a minute later Tommy Wright placed a low shot in to the net to spark delirium among the U's fans in a crowd only just short of 2,000.
