Strikers Are Key - The Big Catch-Up !

4 November 2018

It's been six long weeks but the Strikers are Key wagon rolled back into town in quite bizarre style after yesterday's hard-earned 1-0 victory against Dagenham and Redbridge.

It was an ebullient Players' Bar which greeted the often chaotic unveiling of the winning syndicates in the three draws which took place. Those draws related to the recent evening home League matches played v Dover Athletic and Chesterfield plus, of course, that in respect of the game with our visitors from Essex yesterday.

All three draws also had a distinctly European flavour as each was conducted by very first time visitors to Gander Green Lane from Holland, Greece and the Republic of Ireland!

Here were the results:

Draw 7 - Dover Athletic - ball 11 owned by Phil White and his Autotec Workshop syndicate emerged from the purple velvet bag. Sadly a combination of Phil and Leo from Rotterdam, who conducted this draw, were unable to choose the right key and Phil had to make do with the £50 consolation prize

Draw 8 - Chesterfield - the prize fund swelled to £550 for this one and Leonardo, our visitor from Athens, pulled out ball 9 owned by “The Old Ds”, Keith Dodwell and Peter Dillon. Neither of the Ds were present but Dos was, and the Manager's Midas touch was in evidence once more as he duly selected the right key on Keith's and Pete's behalf, scooping them the jackpot along the way. Congratulations to them!

Draw 9 - Dagenham and Redbridge ; this time Kelly, first time visitor from Kerry, plucked ball 43 from the purple velvet bag, owned by the “Hooray” syndicate comprising Rich Smith, Jamie Collins and Dean, Mark and Nicky Beckwith. Having left the building just ten minutes earlier, it was appropriate that fellow-centre half Charlie Clough, complete with battle scars, should try his luck on the syndicate's behalf. Sadly no luck; fellas, Cloughy has your £50 consolation prize!

We take a breath and move on to draw 10 which will be held in three weeks' time after the match v Maidenhead on 24th November. Whatever next?

See you all then for the next chapter ....
