Eddie Clack

23 October 2019

We were very sorry to learn at the end of last week of the passing of our former defender Eddie Clack at the age of 84.

Eddie signed for Sutton in the summer of 1958 after spending three seasons at Carshalton Athletic, and went on to make 262 appearances, principally at left half. including playing in the 1963 Amateur Cup final at Wembley against Wimbledon. He scored six goals during his Sutton career and represented Surrey FA and the FA.

He moved to Tooting & Mitcham during the 1964/5 season after Dario Gradi had gone in the opposite direction to join U's. He subsequently went to Epsom & Ewell before going back to Carshalton.

He was a highly regarded player who many local observers feel was unlucky not to represent England at amateur level.

We extend our sympathies to Eddie's family and friends.
