U's start at home to Newport

23 June 2022

Sutton will start the 2022-23 Sky Bet League Two season at home to Newport County on Saturday 30 July.

The Welsh side, who like U's fell just short of a play-off place last season, visited the VBS on Easter Monday when Rob Milsom's penalty(above) proved the only goal of the game.

The fixtures then continue with a visit to the Keepmoat Stadium to face relegated Doncaster Rovers on Saturday August 6 and a home game with Barrow a week later. The first of six midweek games comes on Tuesday 16 August away to another relegated side, Crewe Alexandra, before U's travel to promoted Grimsby Town the following Saturday. August finishes with a home game against last season's beaten play-off finalists Mansfield.

The other five midweek games are home and away to Swindon and Northampton, and at home to Gillingham, that last game part of the Christmas programme on Thursday 29 December. U's will visit Crawley on Boxing Day and host near neighbours AFC Wimbledon on New Year's Day - the visit to the Dons' new Plough Lane ground is on Saturday 15 October.

While the Christmas programme is quite local, Easter is less so, with U's at home to National League champions Stockport on Good Friday and away to Bradford City on Easter Monday.

The season finishes with a home game against Carlisle on Saturday 6 May.

The next fixture news will come just before lunchtime when an invited Premier League Under 21 side will be added to Southern Group G of the Papa Johns Trophy to join Sutton, Oxford United and Leyton Orient, while the Carabao Cup first round draw, in which U's have ball 30 in the southern section, is at 2.30pm. Both are live on Sky Sports News.
