Club statement - supporter behaviour

12 October 2022

Sutton United expects supporters at all matches to behave in a manner consistent with our culture of being a venue for all, especially families, and a safe place to experience the enjoyment and entertainment of professional sport. We take our responsibilities seriously and regularly consult with our Supporters Liaison Officer, Claire Loughlin, and the Supporters' Club in this regard. In addition we follow the advice of the EFL and the Police Authorities in setting our Ground Regulations, and in how we steward our matches.

It is with regret we are noticing a decline in spectator behaviour, the outcomes of which we are addressing. Can we remind our spectators that inappropriate language is in contravention of our Ground Regulations, as is the bringing of alcohol into the stadium. Some breaches of our Ground Regulations are also criminal offences and the Club has no hesitation in assisting the police in such matters. Stewards have been instructed to adopt a firm response to incidents and individuals acting inappropriately. The Club is also adopting an anonymous reporting mechanism for informing in real time the Ground Safety Officer and Club Officials, and encourages its use by the majority of our fans to assist in eradicating unwelcome behaviour from our stadium on match days. (More details to follow soon).

As a result of inappropriate behaviour and contraventions of our Ground Regulations, the Club has had to take the unfortunate decision to issue 2 banning orders following the Salford City game, which will last for the remainder of the season. This is a practical demonstration of the actions the Club is taking, and will continue to take, should it be required.
