After two defeats, Sutton's women returned to winning ways in style this afternoon, with three second half goals seeing off the challenge of Millwall Lionesses, who had won the reverse fixture 5-1 in September.
After a goalless first half in which U's were denied by the woodwork and some good goalkeeping, Olivia Watson opened the scoring thirteen minutes after the interval, and Darcy Wells struck a fine second goal with a long range shot quarter of a hour from time. The gloss was put on the performance by Sarah Chapman just before the end. The result keeps U's in seventh place in the table but now within eight points of third placed Millwall.
Next Sunday Sutton are at the VBS again, at home to Aylesford, with the kick off later than usual at 3pm as the game is preceded by the League Cup Final between Worthing and Dartford, which is a 12.00 kick off.
The development side lost 2-1 away to Old Tiffinians, and next week are at home to Cranleigh, kick off 2pm in Collingwood Recreation Ground. The reserves had no game today but next Sunday host Ashmount Leigh in a league game at the David Weir Centre (kick off 2pm), three weeks before the sides meet agai in the League Cup final at Dorking.
To round off the weekend's results news, the academy side conceded a late goal to lose 2-1 at Bournemouth, Joe Throp scoring U's goals. They are in action on Tuesday away to Cambridge United at Clare College Sports Ground, kick off 11.00am.
