Latest squad update

12 June 2023

We can confirm that winger Enzio Boldewijn and midfielder Ali Smith have rejected offers of new contracts and will be leaving Sutton United.

Enzio is leaving us for family reasons, having signed at the start of our Football League campaign in 2021 and made 111 appearances, scoring four goals, three of which came against Rochdale including two in the 3-0 win in March 2022(above). Manager Matt Gray said: ''Enzio has been great for us during his two seasons here, playing in numerous positions, but with the birth of his first child he is looking to move closer to his partner's family and so would be struggling with the travelling. While it's disappointing for us we understand his reasons and wish him all the best in the future.''

Ali will also not be a part of the Sutton squad next season after declining a new contract. Signed from Altrincham at the start of last season Ali, who was 24 in May, scored 16 goals in 89 games for the club, including an absolute belter at Stevenage in January 2022 (above), and received the Ralph Carr Young Player of the Year award last season. His form over those two seasons has attracted clubs higher up the EFL, as Matt explained. ''Ali was an brilliant signing and has had a fantastic two seasons with us, and conducted himself superbly throughout his time at the club. He became a free agent at the end of the season, and has had a number of options with clubs in a higher division, and so is hoping to pursue one of those. He's a top player and top person, and we wish him success in his future career.''

Matt and his team have been working hard since the end of last season to add to the squad, and hopefully will be in a position to announce news of incoming signings later this week - keep an eye on the website for updates.
