David Ajao is Premier League Community Captain

26 February 2024

Before the game against Colchester on Saturday a presentation was made by Councillor Trish Fivey to David Ajao, the head of our girls' football section, who was chosen as our 2024 Community Captain as part of the Premier League’s Wider Football and Communities campaign. They were joined by members of our Under 13 girls' team who will take part on Sunday in the 2023/24 Surrey County Women's and Girls' League Cup final against Balham at Leatherhead Youth FC, kick off 10.00am.

The Premier League’s Wider Football and Communities campaign ran between the 12th and 26th of February 2024 and celebrated the impact that investment from the League, as well as clubs’ delivery, has on people and places. As part of the campaign, all clubs who receive Premier League funding to deliver community programmes were asked to nominate a “Community Captain”.

David is the Head of Girls Football at Sutton United and has rapidly become a driving force in the club's commitment to developing young talent and fostering a sense of community. Joining the club in the summer of 2021, his journey commenced when his daughter participated in the U11 girls team trials.

During the trials, David's involvement transcended the role of a supportive parent. His enthusiasm for player development quickly caught the attention of the club's management. Recognising his dedication, David was approached to manage one of our U11girls teams, a role he embraced. It was this passion and commitment that led to his appointment as the Head of Girls Football in March 2023.

Since assuming the role of Head of Girls Football, David has made a remarkable impact on the Women and Girls' section at Sutton United. His exceptional leadership skills, coupled with meticulous organisation, have driven the section forward. Under his guidance, the atmosphere within the teams has transformed, creating a positive and supportive environment for players to thrive.

David's genuine enjoyment of his role is evident in the transformative changes he has initiated within a short span of time. His plans for the future indicate a clear vision for further improvement and growth, fostering an environment that attracts and retains players. He aim to continue developing players not just as athletes but as individuals, instilling values that extend beyond the pitch. The impact of his efforts is not only seen in the growth of our Women and Girls' section but also in the strengthened sense of community within Sutton United.

In essence, David's journey at Sutton United is marked by a profound commitment to the development of young talent, the fostering of a positive environment, and a lasting impact on the community. As Head of Girls' Football, he continues to shape the future of Sutton United Women and Girls' section with unwavering dedication and a passion for the game.
